Great effort, but looking for more depth.

Let me preface this by saying I have a tremendous amount of respect for Shawanda Patterson (Bronzegoddess01) and I feel she has a lot to offer in the way of advising and uplifting women. With all that said, I would say this book is okay, but more or less like every other dating guide, just a little on the amateur side. If you watch her videos, then you have read the book. Simple as that. The title is misleading, because one would assume the content of the book would give women ideas on how to become more of a whole person whilst navigating the dating scene. There is minimal to no content in regards to that. I also expected more depth. Her Strawberry Letters on You Tube are so involved, I thought we would get the same depth in her writing. Not so much. I felt this was a chopped up, regurgitation of things I have already read elsewhere or watched on her YT channel.

Her Words Are A Gift.

This book is a must read! Mrs. Shawnda Patterson, aka BronzeGoddess01 on Youtube has been sharing her journey, heart, and soul with the world for years. She has a divine gift, and I'm so happy that God has blessed her with another platform to reach and help so many more that are in need of encouragement, motivation, or just a spiritual friend. I have her motivational videos saved for those days when I need a pick-me-up, some sunshine, and a reminder that God isn't but a breath away. She will truly inspire you.

I love The Bronze Goddess and her Strawberry letters

I had to give this book an average rating as it was an average book. I love The Bronze Goddess and her Strawberry letters. I would recommend this book to anyone who has had questions to ask The Bronze Goddess that were more general than those she answers her advice column. However, as BronzeGoddess has said before that she is more of a speaker than a writer and that is very evident in this book. I won't say that the book is poorly written, but I cannot call it a good read. The advice is sound, but if you are looking for a read as spirited as her channel, you will be surely disappointed.

Great Hero and World Concept

I’m trying to settle into my summer (post-college semester) with reading and writing. So yesterday when I discovered that Constantine was indeed going to be making a small-screen appearance as a series in the fall, I thought about the first graphic novel of the “new” Constantine I’d picked up but hadn’t gotten around to yet.

The new John Constantine is the old John Constantine. Mostly. This is the version that’s been traveling around with the Justice League Dark series. I’ve read and reviewed the first two graphic novels of that series and loved them. Just discovered the third graphic novel was out, so I picked it up too because the last one ended on a cliffhanger.

This Constantine is ten years or so younger, has a romantic history with Zatanna (DCU’s backwards speaking magician), and has a lot of the same history as the original. The comic books are no longer called Hellblazer, dunno why.

The collection offers the first six issues of the series, led off by a three-issue arc that explores, more or less, Constantine’s present world. This arc is written by Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes, I guess as a sort of handoff from Justice League Dark that Lemire has been doing. The handoff is pretty much seamless in my opinion, because I had to go back to look where Fawkes took off on his own.

In this first arc, Constantine is presented at his best. He’s smart, selfish, and curious, and mostly out to save his own neck as things go bad. I enjoyed the ties back to Sargon the Sorcerer, one of the Golden Age’s heroes that I didn’t know about until the 25� 80-page giant comics back in the 1970s, although Sargon isn’t actually in this graphic novel.

This new Constantine appears to be a world traveler as well, globe-hopping with aplomb and knowing people everywhere. I like the idea a lot because it opens up all sorts of out-of-the-way places and world magics to climb into the coming stories. It only stands to reason because Constantine has access to the House of Mystery (see the Justice League Dark to get up to date on that).

I like the Cold Flame as a threat, especially with the new Sargon the Sorceress. I can tell they’re going to be around for a while. And I liked the confrontation with the Spectre, though I couldn’t tell exactly how this version of the Spectre fits into the new DCU. The Spectre is one of those characters I enjoyed a lot and look forward to.

The second story is a standalone, pretty much a-day-in-the-life-of scenario that works really well as it comes full circle. Constantine gets a chance to balance the scales here and there, and work his magic as he gets himself out of hot water with Papa Midnite, a voodoo-slinging character that looks to be another recurring personality.

As we see, Constantine’s on-again/off-again relationship with Zatanna is pretty much off, but it is nice to see her and get an idea of what she’s up to.

The next story is a two-parter that stars Constantine with Shazam/Billy Batson that on the surface looks like it wouldn’t work, but Fawkes does a good job of setting up all the whys and wherefores. Plus, we get a look at a Captain Marvel Constantine who is interesting to watch in action. I like the new Billy Batson too, and he’s kind of a chip off of the old Constantine because he’s not the St. Billy everyone remembers. He’s a kid who’s been in the foster system and gotten really jaded before he got his superpowers/magic. I do like the new hood he wears.

I’m also enjoying the fact that Constantine’s world tends to evolve and bring back old characters at the same time. In most comics series once a character is dead, that’s pretty much it. (Unless they’re brought back to life and turned into something really cool – like Winter Soldier.) In the last issue collected in this book, one of the victims of Constantine’s earlier machinations turns up from the afterlife looking for revenge.

For a time Constantine hovers on the brink of life and death, only to be helped by a former combatant. And that just sets us up for the cliffhanger ending.

One of the best things about this new series is Renato Guedes’ art. The panels and the pages simply pop. I also like the lighter treatment of colors everything is rendered in. It would be too easy to lose detail (or simply not draw it) if the strip was heavily inked. The colors here most of the time are a pastel hue that makes everything easy to see. Yet, even in these lighter hues, Constantine’s world is creepy and malicious.

I’m really hoping the new television series riffs off of this new series because there are a lot of fun characters in these pages.

Constantine: it's not hellblazer, but he's still blazing hell!

This is a very fun Constantine- straight out of the pages of the New 52s Justice Leauge Dark, replete with magic, intrigue, and the wry cleverness fans have come to expect from their favorite sharp dressed occultist. This book is not an update of the older Vertigo title, and isn't as dark, or esoteric and serious, as the original Hellblazer. But, it is FUN! It's a good comic- a well-done, beautifully rendered romp through a mystical world that walks the line between Lovecraft's vision of miasmal mist inundating a New England graveyard in a hour called the witching one and the accessible, well crafted comics of a modern master like Bendis, Fraction, or Remender. Basically,
No matter how you cut the (tarot) deck- this book is a must read, for fans of John and DC's darker side.

Jeff Lemire reinveted the ageing, hard-living magician- but in a manner sensitive to the charachters proper English heritage and penchant for trouble. Without any spoilers, I can say- fans of both the older books and the Constantine of the New 52 will find a book that is as familiar as it is innovative. Good stuff! A nice reboot for a great IP.

Less than spellbinding

“Constantine” – right away you can tell DC have fiddled with the former Vertigo fan favourite by naming it after the atrocious Keanu Reeves picture from 2005. It used to be called John Constantine: Hellblazer and the name Hellblazer isn’t mentioned once in this comic. But it’s still recognisably the same character even though the character’s doomed soul isn’t mentioned as much in this reboot than it was before, and I’m not sure it’s once mentioned that he’s from Liverpool, just that he’s English (I’d have LOVED to have heard Keanu’s attempt at a Newcastle accent – if you’ve never heard it, google it and listen to how funny it sounds and then imagine the guy who mangled a British accent in Coppola’s Dracula attempting it. Woah!).

Instead, Constantine is portrayed as a supernatural Indiana Jones, globetrotting ahead of his evil magic rivals to collect the pieces of the powerful talisman known as Croydon’s Compass, a device that alerts its owner to the appearance of any mystical object first. As he travels to Norway, Myanmar and London, he’s chased by Sargon the Sorceress (daughter of Sargon the Sorcerer – imaginative, right?) and Mister E, and encounters other spooky characters like Papa Midnite, Zatanna and the Spectre along the way too.

The book does get a lot right by including a lot of magical action, duels, spells, and everything that should be in a story featuring sorcerers, spirits and wizards, and artist Renato Guedes does an excellent job of drawing these magical scenes really well. Also, Constantine’s devil-may-care, selfish, and roguish personality comes through strongly. Buuut… it’s just not a very interesting story. The first three issues at least have a story arc as Constantine gets the pieces of Croydon’s Compass, but it’s quite formulaic with few surprises along the way – how does Constantine get the pieces? Shows up at a shrine, cracks open a vase, and there it is. And then what happens at the end of the arc? He puts the compass on a shelf and sits in a chair. Oh. How…zzzz…. The remaining 3 issues are a bit of a directionless mess with issue 5 unfortunately being a Trinity War tie-in.

Trinity War was utter garbage but suddenly inserting Shazam into the series is just awkward, not least because it’s a terrible issue or that it has nothing to do with the series or even Trinity War, and is totally irrelevant. It’s just a cynical marketing trick to sell more copies, and fans of New 52 Shazam (there must be some) hoping for something out of the crossover with Constantine are treated to Shazam pushed to the side for the entire issue while Constantine fights a bad guy.

Jeff Lemire co-writes the first four issues with Ray Fawkes and it’s unsurprising that these are the best of the book with the last two containing so little moments of interest that I don’t think I’ll be following the series any further. Constantine, Volume 1: The Spark and The Flame is a decent book in that it’s accessible to new readers and Lemire/Fawkes have more or less captured the essence of the character, but it’s a shame that the series suffers from a lack of a strong narrative to give Constantine a sense of urgency or tension in his adventures. As it is, it feels like each issue of Constantine is the character treading water – not exactly riveting reading.

He has a strong background in Finance and Accounting - having these as his major subjects in college. He has an Accounting degree from the University of Bombay (Mumbai), India. His skill-set includes the full range of financial applications in Oracle Applications and related modules where there is a financial impact. His broad range of skills has helped him with his implementation of - Record to Report, Procure to Pay and Quote to Cash processes, with re-engineering and crystallizing processes during implementations. His tenure as a consultant and a manager of financial applications in corporate America, brings to the table a wide range of experience with financial processes that include inter-company, multi-currency, statutory needs and process flows to manage operational changes that will lead to efficiency and appropriate accounting results. He has been a board member of the NorCal OAUG and Multi-National SIG and is the coordinator of the GL SIG and has presented various papers at OAUG and related conferences. A good resource

First I want to disclose I was sent a free copy by the publisher as I have a blog on this subject [...]. Second I should disclose I know the author and worked with in his role at the Oracle Applications User Group.

This book is not going to make you an expert in Oracle Financials and ready to get started on a major implementation right away, it does not get into the detailed steps of how to configure all the modules and features. What it does is introduce the modules and explain what they are for in a way that a business user can understand, diving into a little more detail in some places. I think it is intended to be a guide for a business user considering or already starting an implementation, so they can understand some of the options and choices available and I feel it meets that goal well.

It does also cover what is new in Release 12 (there is a lot of new stuff in R12) and would be useful to somebody who only knows 11i and wants to get up to speed on R12.

Good over view of functionality

Oracle E Business Suite Financial R12: A Functionality guide is first which covers functionality of R12 (Financial) end to end. Mohan, Author of book is running a implementation and training business which has helped in shaping the book.

Book is targeted to middle level executives who understand business processes. Due to its target audiences, Mohan has assumed that reader of this book has prior knowledge of Oracle product suite which may not be true in most of cases because business is not Oracle shop.
On the technical front again author has also assumed that reader has understanding of underlying technical aspects like flexfield.

Book covers functionality part of Oracle Financial R12 in sufficient depth and good read for one who has Oracle product exposure

Iyer's book is aimed at a financial professional who these days surely must have some experience using a spreadsheet like Excel. Where this experience preferably extends to having done some simple programming that makes some cells be dependent on the values of other cells. Well, ok, the current book does involve more intricate coding. But you still do not have to be a professional programmer.

The examples in this guide are careful to use the terminology of accounting and finance. They all involve common needs you are likely to have, in asking the e-business suite R12 to analyse the underlying data. Topics include budgeting, where this can span several quarters or years, and where the budget organisation might be a department or group of departments in the company.

Another handy topic is the ability to transact in any currency other than that defined as the ledger currency. The only requirement being that an exchange rate is defined between these. There is one restriction as far as I can tell from the text's documentation of this feature. The exchange rate has to be entered by hand, and it can vary as a function of time. I suspect that there must be a module or subroutine that can take these from another database, perhaps as a Web Service. For example, another book I recently reviewed, Mastering Magento, does exactly that.

Along these lines, a later chapter of Iyer talks about credit management. Where R12 lets you process applications by individuals or companies for a line of credit with your firm. R12 has a means to hook into Dun and Bradstreet's database, letting you consult it for information about an applicant. That does require you to pay D&B for access, unsurprisingly. Since that is very high value information. So why doesn't Oracle do likewise for exchange rates? This would likely be cheaper, since such rates are promulgated freely.

Rebuilding Our Ethics Through Trust

Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. Marc Bekoff have compiled ideas, stories, experience and much more about living a humane and ethical life into a book accessible to all. As the animal protection community has done for 50 years, this book shows that humans must respect the environment and all life if we, as a species, expect to survive. It is a very simple premise yet humanity has yet to catch on. The Ten Trusts not only gives us a path to follow, but it shows how others have acted before in trying to alter destructive patterns. Caring for others (animals, humans and nature) is not something radical, it is - humane! It is something everyone must do.
Goodall and Bekoff share their experiences from living a life of compassion and a boundless ethic. Few people are as well known and respected as Jane Goodall, but she has never rested on her fame. Instead, she stepped away from her field research and beloved friends in Gombe National Park, not to build monetary wealth, but to share her wealth of knowledge with young and old alike through lectures and programs such as Roots and Shoots. While Bekoff has spent years educating a more humane youth at the University of Colorado, all while helping us to better understand and appreciate animal behavior.
Over the last two years the Bush administration has systematically deconstructed even basic protections for the environment in order to please corporate greed. A moving, enlightening, reaffirming book.

This is a wonderful book, filled with information and perspectives from which everyone will benefit. I recommend this book to "the converted" as well as to those who are unsure what all the vegetarians and animal-rights people are going on about. It's not a preachy book and it's not purely for animal lovers or "tree-huggers" -- it's a book for any human who cares (even slightly) about how his or her life affects other lives--the life of the planet and the lives of the animals (including humans) who live on it. I cannot imagine anyone who could read this book and not be affected by it. It's also very encouraging to read about the success of Ms. Goodall's Roots & Shoots program -- hopefully, the generations touched by her knowledge will do a better job than we have.

A Global Essential

Of the many books I have read dealing with environmental issues, this has had a major impact. The authors have tremendous credibility and scientific knowledge. If ever there was a canary in the mine, it is this book. We have plundered our planet, ignored the quality of life for other sentient beings, and have failed to see the need for a balance in nature and our own lives.
There are messages here that all should heed. But, most of all, there is hope if we pay attention.
Our current U.S. and world leadership has failed our planet. Hopefully, there are those who can steer the world back on course.

A very good book!

I am a non-native speaker and I am enjoying this book. I believe it can be a good help for all ESL students - and teachers. The explanations are really clear and the exercises are very efficient (it comes with a very helpful answer key!). It's good to be able to practice with the different English verb tenses. Thanks.

barely use it, but when we need it, we love it

This is a book I bought for home reference. We BARELY use it, but when we need it, it is an excellent resource.

We mostly refer to it when comparing English grammar to how other languages work - the kids are learning Latin, German, and Spanish.

Great book to have on hand. Written for English-manguage-learners who need to write. Perfect for quick explanations and giving excellent examples.

Salt Deserves Thought

Ms. Krahl has done a great service to the equine community. Both horses and their human companions can only benefit from the information presented here. Salt is one of those elements of life that is so basic it seldom receives the thought it deserves. It is usually taken for granted, sort of like oxygen. But as the author makes clear a right understanding of salt, and the varieties of salt, can contribute significantly to the health of our horses and of ourselves as well.

The highly processed white stuff consumed by so many horses and humans is neither natural nor healthy. Fortunately, Ms. Krahl provides the information needed to make beneficial and health promoting decisions. If you have given little thought to the subject of salt, this book will be a revelation not to be missed.

Stephanie Krahl hits another home run with her second book, Salt for Horses: Tragic Mistakes to Avoid. Her research on salt: good salt, toxic salt, mediocre salt---she thoroughly covers this important subject. I have been striving to give my horses quality food choices and I found out that all salts are not created equal and giving poor quality salt can be very harmful to humans and animals. I'm very grateful for the information she provides in her easy quick read book.

I feel this is a must read for horse people and non-horse people. She is redundant in her writing but knowing the benefits and pitfalls of ingesting the wrong type of salt, I understand her need to emphasize. She presents the information in such as way as to be easy to read. I found it to be a wealth of information regarding the dangers of eating the wrong type of salt. Certaintly for horses but more importantly, for people as well.

About the Author
ALEX PRUD'HOMME is Julia Child's great-nephew and the coauthor of her autobiography, My Life in France, which was adapted into the movie Julie & Julia. He is also the author of The Ripple Effect: The Fate of Freshwater in the Twenty-First Century, Hydrofracking: What Everyone Needs to Know, and The Cell Game, and he is the coauthor (with Michael Cherkasky) of Forewarned: Why the Government Is Failing to Protect Us--and What We Must Do to Protect Ourselves. Prud'homme's journalism has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Time, and People.

This is a wonderful book for Julia Child fans

This is a wonderful book for Julia Child fans. I thought I'd read all I could read about Julia Child, and was worried that this book would rehash (ha!) things I already knew, but it gave new perspective and information, as well as appreciation for a wonderful woman. The author is Child's nephew and co-author of her amazing memoir, My Life in France. He made good use of the Child papers collection at Radcliffe and did lots of interviews with people who worked with or were related to Julia, including Judith B. Jones, her editor at Knopf, who was a treasure trove for the author. Well-researched, well-written, extensive endnotes, bibliography, and index. Rest in peace, dear Julia, and to us all, Bon appetit!

Even the amazing have to reinvent

As a long-time fan of Julia Child, I've read pretty much every thing about her. I debated getting this book as I wondered if it would be a warmed over rehash of "memories." However, her nephew stumbled onto something unexpected -- Julia Child went through an existential crisis of her own and decided to reinvent herself. Not once, either, but repeatedly. A fascinating, insightful look at a woman who seems to keep surprising.

I was so surprised skimming through Amazon website, there was a Part Two to My Life in France. I missed it when published.
I am loving reading more about Julia, Paul and their life. Well written, enjoyable reading.
