About the Author
Jonathan McMillan is a pseudonym. Behind it stand two authors, both experienced in the world of economics and finance. One works in the investment bank division of a global bank. He is a financial expert who loves nothing more than digging through balance sheets, system flowcharts, and transaction data. In his role, he has gained firsthand insights into the workings of the financial centers of London and New York. To protect the identity of this author, The End of Banking is published under a pseudonym.

The other author has chosen an academic path. Always eager to learn, he earned two bachelor's degrees, one in economics and one in international relations. He holds an M.Phil. in economics from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. in economics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich. In his research, he investigated the impact of banking and banking regulation on macroeconomic stability and welfare. He is now an economics editor at Neue Zürcher Zeitung, the Swiss newspaper of record.

"The end of banking" takes no prisoners!

With one book, I understood the essence of banking, the fundamental problem of banking, and how it could be solved once and for all. Clear, rational, and free of ideology, it takes you straight to the core of the problem which turns out not to be that complicated once you grasp it. If you work in a bank, you should probably read it now. I must admit, I am a fan, and I highly recommend this book to everyone!
The only thing is that the book may be too clever to achieve its aim. Since the author does not rely on any exaggerated imagery or blunt argument, it may not draw a the political following that it deserves. Therefore, I hope that enough smart people read it, who are attracted by its sharpness and enjoy to base their political views on rational arguments. That way, we will perhaps see one day the necessary political force to really establish alternatives to banking.
Certainly, one of the most important books I have read in my life.

Schudson provides case studies of precedent-setting disclosure practices: the Freedom of Information Act (1966), reforms of supermarket labeling (1970s), sunshine legislation in the Congress (1970), the complicated conceptual and legislative origin of the “environmental impact statement,” and newsroom changes that increased the independence and analytical sophistication of news coverage after 1968. These changes brought a “right to know” into political life and helped define a new era for representative democracy―less focus on parties and elections, more pluralism and more players, year-round monitoring of government, and a blurring line between politics and society, public and private. The rise of openness marks a new stage in self-government.

Beautifully readable and wonderfully illuminating

In this lucidly written study of the rise of transparency as an American value and, more importantly, practice during the 1960s-70s, sociologist Michael Schudson punctures conventional wisdom with his typical understated brilliance and brings us to a new understanding of U.S. society and politics. Unearthing hitherto neglected evidence through a series of case studies in informational openness, Schudson shows how important values that were never a part of the Founding Fathers' original conceptions emerged in the last century as part of a major cultural shift. About the Author

Bea Mikulecky holds a master's degree in TESOL and a doctorate in Applied Psycholinguistics from Boston University. In addition to teaching reading, writing, and ESL, she has worked as a teacher-trainer in the Harvard University Summer ESL Program, in the Simmons College MATESL Program, and in Moscow, Russia. Bea Mikulecky is the author of A Short Course in Teaching Reading Skills and co-author of the Reading Power series.�

Linda Jeffries hold a master's degree in TESOL from Boston University. She has taught reading, writing, and ESL/EFL at Boston College, Boston University, in the Harvard University Summer ESL Program, and at the University of Opole, in Poland. She currently resides in Italy, where she has taught EFL and academic writing at the University of Bologna and the University of Modena. Linda JEffries is co-author of the Reading Power series.

i bought it for college purpose (ESL classes). it's not bad, in fact, I found it easy and it was easy for me. so you might take it if you are taking an ESL classes.

This writer really knows how to pack a book with great suspense, drama, love and passion without all the craziness and sloppiness. This is a series that I love to read.
The Marriata men are seriously alpha and can be deadly when you mess with their women and family. This not a series to miss. Healing inc. is the first of this series and will definitely get you hooked. These are over 200 pages and will have you drawn in from the get go. This is one of my favorite IR authors because she writes such amazing stories and characters. The women are just as amazing as the men and will have you laughing and cheering because their love for the men and family is just as intense and inspiring.

From reading the other reviews I expected to fall madly in love with this book. I didn't. At all. Don't get me wrong it's a well written story but it was lacking to me. Sheila was a crazy combination of strong and weak which I found annoying. The whole thing with her ex Ahmad was stupid to me. Lucas was not my idea of an amazing hero. There was nothing wrong with him, or her for that matter, they just didn't do it for me. He was bossy and sweet and always horny in between.
The inclusion of their families was a bit much for someone who hasn't read the other books in the series. And if this is any indication, will not be reading them.
There was also a lack of passion to me. I like my books steamy and this one is not at all. At least to me. The few and I mean 1or 2 times anything was done in this book were good but not great.

Like I said. I expected more from the reviews. I am actually disappointed I purchased it.
And another thing. No one has said anything yet about their ages. It may or may not matter to some of you but it did to me to an extent. But just so you know they are both in their 40's.

Another Moriatti Man To Fall In Love With

I love this story it's a good follow up story to Healing Inc the characters to me had good chemistry together and I like the suspensefullness (sp) of it all. It brought in the characters of Healing Inc I like that. Plus to me Luca was all alpha not as much as Tyler was but then they are two diffferent characters but I still love him no less. Shelia was a a good character she was a bit over the top sometimes but she still was what Luca needed.

Anywho I can't wait til the next book in the series come out who is it gonna be about Drago and Rie I have my fingers crossed.

This is the story Jodi Melamed tells in Represent and Destroy, portraying the postwar racial break as a transition from white supremacist modernity to a formally antiracist liberal capitalist modernity in which racial violence works normatively by policing representations of difference.

Following the institutionalization of literature as a privileged domain for Americans to get to know difference—to describe, teach, and situate themselves with respect to race—Melamed focuses on literary studies as a cultural technology for transmitting liberal racial orders. She examines official antiracism in the United States and finds that these were key to ratifying the country’s global ascendancy. She shows how racial liberalism, liberal multiculturalism, and neoliberal multiculturalism made racism appear to be disappearing, even as they incorporated the assumptions of global capitalism into accepted notions of racial equality.

Yet Represent and Destroy also recovers an anticapitalist “race radical” tradition that provides a materialist opposition to official antiracisms in the postwar United States—a literature that sounds out the violence of liberal racial orders, relinks racial inequality to material conditions, and compels desire for something better than U.S. multiculturalism.

Grahame Bedford is an Australian writer who has been researching the life of David Anthony Kennedy since 2004. I found the book to be very well researched and informative. There was much that I had not come across previously. David Kennedy's story provides an interesting vantage point from which to view his famous family's legacy. Ultimately Kennedy's life was a tragic odyssey, but this book has told it with a poignant understanding. The many rare photos are a treat.

Absorbing and insightful. David's life seemed to be lived in two parts, one with his father and one without. How different David's life would have been had he not lost his dad at such a tender age. This is a book that does David's memory justice.
